Angling Ireland The essence of game angling is the pursuit of native fish in wild places; Ireland offers a unique opportunity to experience such fishing. Salmon, trout and sea trout are native species with an honoured place in Irish culture. And Ireland's loughs and rivers have preserved their character in a landscape which has changed very little over the centuries. Major rivers like the Munster Blackwater in the south offer sport with salmon and scenery on a grand scale, while a more intimate experience can be enjoyed on the minor limestone trout streams such as those which wind through the green pastures of County Meath. But while Irish game angling is a sport of varied landscapes and many seasons, it has one abiding virtue; it still offers an authentic angling experience in a world where this is increasingly rare.

The brown trout is a native Irish species, and the most widely distributed freshwater fish in Ireland. It thrives in rivers of all types, from small mountain streams to broad limestone rivers such as the Boyne or the lower Liffey. Its main requirements are clean water and swift runs over gravel in which to spawn.
Ireland has for centuries offered ideal habitats for the brown trout. Its rivers, especially those in the midlands, have long been noted for the quality of their wild brown trout fishing
At a time when the habitat of the wild brown trout is contacting all over Europe, and when some fly fishing for trout has an artificial character, Ireland offers the essence of the sport - the pursuit of wild trout taking hatching fly in natural waters. Rivers like the Fergus in County Clare provide challenging sport with selective trout of high average size, and scenery on a impressive scale; a more intimate experience can be enjoyed on the minor limestone trout streams such as those which wind through the pastures of County Meath or County Mayo. Irish trout fly-fishing is a sport of varied landscapes and many seasons, but it has one abiding virtue; it offers an authentic angling experience in a world where this is increasingly rare.

Angling Wales The rivers of Wales are described as running some of the best sea trout in the UK, looking at the diversity and length of most of the rivers in in this country it is is best to list them as shown below. Wales is segrigated into countys but then even these counties are small and the larger rivers travel through sometimes three counties before they reach the irish sea or bristol channel. Although you will find a map of where the river is when clicked on.

Wild brown trout are also found in Wales whether fishing in the small brooks or the large famous rivers, such as the Conway located in the North or the River Towy found in the South West of Wales.Wales has always had quality grayling fishing andt the choice of rivers is now expanding, the rivers of South Wales are gaining a high reputation for the quality of their grayling.

The reservoirs of Wales are set in such scenery that you would be forgiven for thinking they had always existed, these, together with small fisheries of quality provide the angler with plenty of choice. There are some very big fish in these Welsh fisheries and can be a proven test for any angler whether they be stocked or even wild fish which have spawned in lakes/reservoirs year after year. Also in Wales there ar a lot of unfished lakes in places such as mid wales which need quite a walk to get to, situated in the Brecon Becons National park, and also Snowdonia National Park these lakes either lie on peat beds or lime stone rocks giving way to fish of qiute some size. But, take note, you will need permission to fish in a national park.

Shown below is a list of the counties of wales, just click on the county of interest and you will find all the fisheries/reservoirs within. Also places to the left and right of the page you will find some of the best places to stay in the area.
